Minister Eroğlu Inaugurated the Conference on Hydrology and Contamination of Lake Van
The Minister of Environment and Forestry Prof. Dr. Veysel Eroğlu who made the inaugural speech of the Conference on Hydrology and Contamination of Lake Van held in Gevaş Recreation Facilities of 17th District Directorate of State Hydraulic Works General Directorate under the framework of Regional Meetings of 5th World Water Forum noted that the forum to be held in Istanbul in March would be one of the hugest meetings of the world.
Mentioning the significance of discussing the matter of hydrology and contamination of Lake Van in that meeting, Minister Eroğlu maintained his words as follows: “Lake Van is among the most valuable assets of our country. There are numerous settlements around the Lake. Some of them are inside the borders of city of Bitlis and others are located inside the borders of Van. This is why it is a must the waste water treatment facilities around Lake Van be ameliorated and modernized in the best way possible. As the Ministry, we have works underway to prevent the contamination of the lake. We have tabled the Lake Van Action Plan; it also is among the 2 cities that are prioritized in the forestation campaign we have launched. We have come here filling our bags with a fund in the amount of 10 million YTL.”
